The history of the college cevenol

Situated in the Haute-Loire village of Le Chambon sur Lignon (altitude 1000 m), the Collège Cévenol was created by Protestant Ministers André Trocmé and Edouard Theis in 1938. One of their main goals was to offer the young people in the area the chance to pursue their secondary education within their own locality.

The circumstances of the 39/45 war had instilled within the creators of the College a profound desire to proclaim their ideals of tolerance and non-violence.

The establishment developed rapidly at this time. Teachers and pupils from all sorts of geographical, ethnic and religious backgrounds became acquainted and worked together. Everyone who encountered the College was struck by the culture of openness and the quality of research and educational experience.

The Collège Lycée International Cévenol (a private establishment under a contract of state sponsorship since 1971) today welcomes boarders and day students of local, regional, national and international origins.

As the beneficiary of prostestant reform branded by the local tradition of resistance to all forms of oppression, the Collège Cévenol has always been committed to the promotion of a good education for the individual within a diverse group.

Our objective is to constantly develop and upgrade our policies in order to be ready for the challenges that lie ahead.
